Guyana Association of Bankers Inc. (GABI) Welcomes the Launch of the Guyana Development Bank

GABI welcomes the launch of the Guyana Development Bank (GDB) and supports its mandate to expand access to financing for entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Access to finance is fundamental to entrepreneurship, job creation, and sustainable economic growth. As Guyana’s economy continues to expand, GABI considers the GDB a timely and valuable addition to the country’s financial landscape, one that complements the role of existing financial institutions.

Nafeeza Gaffoor, Chairperson of GABI said “Access to finance is essential for entrepreneurs and small businesses, and the GDB has an important role to play in helping them grow. Our members look forward to working with the GDB and other stakeholders to advance financial inclusion, build business capacity, and create lasting opportunity for Guyanese.”

GABI commends the Government for its sustained focus on access to finance and financial inclusion. The Association and its members remain committed to promoting financial literacy, strengthening business capacity, and encouraging greater participation in the formal economy.

The Association extends its best wishes to the Board, management, and staff of the GDB, and looks forward to a constructive partnership for the advancement of entrepreneurship and economic opportunity throughout Guyana.
